Late arrivals or absences

Where the course results in attainment of a certificate, late arrivals or absences will usually culminate in your not receiving it. This is due to the minimum number of hours attendance required by the Awarding Organisations for various qualifications.

Whilst your safety on all our courses is at the forefront of our thinking, and professional standards are employed throughout, clients are expected to take responsibility for their own actions and conduct.

For physical first aid training courses, clients are expected to be able to kneel, twist and bend over simulated casualties – they should be physically fit and able to do this in order to meet the criteria set by the Awarding Organisations within the first aid industry to be able to pass their qualification.

If there is any doubt concerning a client’s medical condition affecting their ability to participate in any of our courses, please bring it to our attention at the time of booking.

Underwood Training Ltd has public liability and professional indemnity insurance cover of £5 million. Further details are available on request.

Information specific to First Aid Clients

  • Please wear practical, comfortable clothing (you will be spending time on the floor!)

  • Please do not wear lipstick when performing CPR on the mannequins as it stains them.

  • Please be punctual – candidates who are constantly late or who miss a part of the course will not be able to complete the course.

  • You will be required to supply your own lunch, unless stated otherwise in your course information.

Information specific to organisations booking an in-house first aid course

  • The room must be large with plenty of clean floor space. Courses are active – students will be lying on the floor simulating casualties with others working around them.

  • The room will require seating for the students and a table for the projector/trainers laptop.

  • Equipment required: a projector screen, a flipchart/whiteboard (these can be provided by Underwood Training Ltd), an electricity supply. If you have at your venue audio-visual equipment into which our trainer(s) can attach a laptop we would be grateful not to have to bring addtional IT equipment with us.

  • Maximum number of candidates for 1 trainer are 12 students. The maximum course size is 24 students (2 trainers); this is subject to enough physical space to support the size of the cohort.

Most of the Awarding Organsations have stipulations concerning contact time – in most cases students cannot pass a course unless they have attended all the sessions.

HSE Syllabus and Ofqual accreditation

The HSE sets the syllabus for First Aid at Work and Emergency First Aid at Work courses; it has not overseen the delivery of training since 2013 when this moved to Ofqual. The HSE legislation also states that employers can undertake first aid training specific to their needs. For more information please contact our office.

Underwood Training is now registered as a Gold Centre with Training Qualifications UK which is an Ofqual recognised Awarding Organisation (AO) for first aid and other qualifications which are on the RQF Framework.

Underwood Training is also registered with First Aid Awards which is a second Ofqual accrediated AO and we use this AO for the delivery of our range of First Aid for Mental Health courses.

Where bespoke physical first aid courses do not fit under the RQF framework, we certificate through Underwood Training direct.
